Flit Clutch by the Harth

Alana sat by the Harth, sipping Klah and stroking her worried Flit. They were watching the gold's latest clutch, waiting for it to finish hardning. It should hatch today...

She had speant almost two sevendays serching the weyr for the clutch. The little queen had hidden it in a dark, but warm, corner of the hatching grounds. The eggs had been hard enough to move by then. Now all 13 eggs were sitting stationary in the sandbox by the harth. The kitchen staff had fresh scraps ready to feed them, the seccond they hatched. Suddenly, she saw the bringhtly molted egg, the biggest egg, twitch. She sat bolt upright "CALL THE WEYR!! THEY ARE HATCHING!!!"

Callie dashed quickly into the room, followed by every single eager candidate. Nikita and Heather were at the head of the candidates and right behind Callie. Callie peeked a glance at the candidates to see them all staring in awe and wonder.

Rose rushes in fallowed close behind by Alan.
Rose did not have any pets but wanted to see how this would play out. Alan was thinking that he would like Sky to have a pal.

Callie took a few pieces of meat and handed one to 3 candidates behind her, Heather, Nikita and Jasmine. Callie crouched down with her piece of meat and held it out gently, speaking soothingly to the hathcing eggs.

Heather followed Callie's example with his piece of fish. How fun it would be if he impressed one! Looking around, he saw Jasmine with a piece of Wherriemeat to his lft and Nikita with herdbest meat to his right, both doing the same as him and Callie.

Morlue comes dashing, obviously late, but grabs a big piece of fish, charging towards the eggs.

He manages to get there for a single egg, and places his fish next to his tiny egg, having happy feelings and daydreams of his flit and him

Rose picks up two different types off meats and hands a Runner meat to Alan. Well Rose crouches down next to Alan with some wherrie meat.

Alana stodd back from the crowd, her poor Bree screeching protests, her eyes whirling red. "Shoosh darling, the eggs will hatch soon, and the babes will impress" She stroked the poor beast, feeling the motherly anger her flit felt.

The largest egg in the clutch, a molted yellowish egg, begins to rock violently.

The firelizzards and dragons of the weyr begin to humm.

Mordue sights the egg closest to him crack, and rush over, giving his fish to it. He is careful not to touch it, but is highly excited and smiles, wondering what will hatch.

Nikita stepped hesitantly a half step closer. She spoke gently to the hatching egg and held the meat out. She saw the Callie, Jasmine and Heather go to opposite sides of her and stop looking at the egg. Looking bakcwards, she saw the other candidates whispering excitedly.

The big egg shudders as it cracks down its entire surface. The cracks show it is about to hatch.

The egg next to the big one begins to shake violently, a small crack appears on the top.

Rose jumps to her feet and rushes to get closer accidentally bumping another candidate.
"Excuse me!" Rose yelled behind her as she make her way closer to the front. Alan fallows behind but turns to his left away from Rose, crashing into a female candidate.
"Sorry." Alan whispers and blushes before taking a spot closer up too.

With one final violent shake, the contentce of the largest egg spill onto the Sands. The gold hatchling struggles up and looks around, eyes whirling red with hunger.

The second egg is cracking down its sides.

Two smaller eggs to the edge of the clutch begin to shake.

An egg at the back of the clutch makes its first movement.

Nikita crooned softly to the little gold as she took a few steps forward. She held the meat out cautiously.

Slowly approaches the golden hatchling, Mordue gentle says he shall not harm them, and hands out his fishies, hoping to impress it. Kneeling down to its height, and thinking kind thoughts, the hatchling looks quizical to all of the candidates.

Rose stood in amazement looking at the baby Flit. Alan looked on surprised hoping he still had a chance at getting a pal for Sky.

Nikita took a few more steps and crouched a foot or two from the tiny gold. She held the little piece of meat out to it. She kept talking to it gently, and focused all her attention on it.

The starving gold sees the food offered by the humans. She listens to the reassurances of the male, and the soft crooning of the female, trying to decide who to go to.

The second egg is almost hatched, its shell is completely covered in cracks.

The two small eggs are rocking more violently now, but not showing signs of cracking yet.

The egg at the back starts rocking more determinedly, a small crack appears at the base.

Nikita stayed where she was, slightly closer than the male. She held the meat at a steady spot and continued crooning that she wouldnt hurt the little fledling and that shed take good care of her.

Recoiling from the shock, Mordue freezes up, and catches his wind. He returns his attention to the flit, still at its height.

The little Gold moves its head from male to female, then chirps and pounces on the meat offered by the female, Nikita, knocking it from her hand as she gorges on the little piece of meat. She finishes and looks up at the girl, chirping for more.

The second egg bursts open, and in the center of the eggshards lays a stunned Brown.

The two eggs at the edge are cracking all over, most cracks centered at the top.

The egg at the back is rocking violently, the base of the shell cracking quickly.

Four more eggs begin to rock.

Mordue is mildly upset the gold didnt pick him, but he doesnt give up. Once again, he sings softly to the hatchlings and moves closer, all the while drooping lower and holding the meat in front of him. Constant thoughts of the small flits fill his mind, but he has his eyes on the small brown flit.

Rose was amused that the gold chose Nikita. She then focused her attention on the other flit eggs that where hatching. seeing Alan was doing the same as her.

Nikita offered another little piece of meat to the little fledgling, wondering what to do next. She grinned happily as the little gold continually chirped for food. She gently coaxed er up onto her arm and walked quickly to a table where she could see but was out of the way and kept feeding her small bits of meat and talking to her.

The little brown eyes the fish someone offers him. He prods at the young mans mind, looking for a sign of love and affection he craved... though he wanted food first!

The two eggs at the side hatched simultaneously. Both were tiny greens. They looked exhausted from their efforts, eyes whirling red.

The egg at the back rocked violently and fell back as it hatched. Nobody could see the hatchling, but would they look for him anyway?

The four eggs in the center continued rocking violently, cracking their shells against each other.

Another two eggs, off to the side, began to shake.
