| There are two general ways to make a good character; use only the basic form and your imagination, or use a generator.
Below is the generator. It used math and luck to make the basics of your new character, and you then can flesh it out however you want.
It has diffrent charts and each has an effect on your new character. They are the "Basics", "Phisical", "Personality", "Features and Values", "Animals and Pets", "People", "Relationships", "Rank", "Crafts", "Location", "Items", "Crafters Items", "Allergys/Diets","Weaknesses" and the "Events Series".
Have fun making your new characters!

| Basics Charts For such things as birthrank, age, gender, siblings ext. Roll | Birthrank | 1 | Holdless | 2 | Trader | 3 | Drudge | 4 | Holdbred | 5 | Holders Child | 6 | Lord Holders Child | 7 | Craftbred | 8 | Weyrbrat | 9 | Weyrbrat of ranking rider | 10 | Other/Mixed | HoldlessBeing born holdless is a curse. You parents were either born holdless, chose to become holdless or commited a crime that forced them to be holdless. You will have a life of little and fear. But there are some mine-holds that will take in holdless children, so that they can regain the honor that their parents lost. TraderBorn into a tigh-knit trader caravan, your character would have lived knowing both love and security, and freedom and occasional terror. Most love being on the road, all are good with animals and know how to get a good deal. They are welcomed to all holds and halls, and usualy have friends and family in every major and many minor holds. DrudgeBorn to servitude, because of social or financial reasons, or because of physical/mental inadequacy. These folks are a very sorry lot, mostly with short lifespans and with very little to hope for in their lives. Usually among large families, occasionally the product of rape, sometimes outcast because of illegitimacy, Servants do all the hard work around a Hall, Hold and Weyr, anywhere that requires more than a little upkeep. Scrubbing floors and walls, cleaning carpet, washing and mending clothing, digging wells, cooking and serving, often providing visitors with whatever requests (however unsavory) they have, those are but a few of the things Servant class members do for a living. The recieve the most minimul wage possible, but are given food and shelter and a minimum of clothing. Finding a truly worthy candidate among these people is rare at best. HoldbredThe bulk of people on Pern are born in this rank, and most remain there their entire lives. They may have been born in the Major, Minor, Farm or Cotholds, and may have lived their since or moved off to another hold. They live a protected, but rather dull life, but it is safe and they get paid a fair wage for their work. Holders ChildThe child of the holder of a minor hold, these children are more privaliged than other holdbred children, and better educated, but still know what hard work is and are not as snobby as sone lordlings and lords daughters. Lord Holders ChildAlso known as a Lordling (Male) or Lord's Daughter (Female), these are highly privaliged children who get the highest education and most oppertunitys. If a serch is happening, the riders must see the lords children FIRST, before other holdbred and drudge's children. They often do not know many "commoner" skills, such as cleaning and cooking, and dont know what hard work is. CraftbredThe children of Crafters, they grow up secure and well trained, often exeling at their parents craft. They are also expected to do at least as well as their parents and to pass with flying colors, and most do. They also have a much easyer time getting jobs outside of their hall and even moving crafts. WeyrbratThe child of anyone within a weyr (including Drudges), they grow up with the weyr values and attitudes, so find it dificult should they ever move to a hold. They grow up with dragons and most have flits by their teens. They are the first to be serched for a clutch, though those who fale to impress past the age of candidcy (around 24 for both girls and boys, the age that, if they still have failed to impress, they are no longer candidates), they will become staff within the weyr, but some may show promise in a craft and leave. Weyrbrat of ranking riderThe child of a wingleader, weyrleader, weyrwoman, jr. weyrwoman ext. They are just like a normal Weyrbrat in most regards, but expected to do better, impress younger and quicker, and genraly more respected. Other/MixedOthers not above (such as born in a weyrhold or wherhold or mine), or a combination of the above. Roll | Age | 1 | Under 10 | 2 | 10-13 | 3 | 13-15 | 4 | 15-18 | 5 | 18-22 | 6 | 22-25 | 7 | 25-30 | 8 | 30-40 | 9 | 40-50 | 10 | 50-60+ | | |
Your age will determine what your character can do. They cant be serched if they are over 20 for males or 22 for females, or younger than 12 for males or 14 for females. Roll | Gender | 1-6 | Male | 7-10 | female |
The gender balence on pern is male heavey. Familys like male children better because they can work more, and on the land. Roll | #of Siblings | Birth Order | 1 | Only child | Eldest | 2 | 1 of 2 | Older, not eldest | 3 | 1 of 3 | Older, not eldest | 4 | 1 of 4 | Older middle | 5 | 1 of 5 | middle | 6 | 1 of 5-7 | younger middle | 7 | 1 of 7-8 | Younger, not youngest | 8 | 1 of 8-9 | Younger, not youngest | 9 | 1 of 9-10 | Younger, not youngest | 10 | 1 of 10 | youngest |
The number of siblings and birth order is nice for backgrounds and even potental for another character later on (Ie. my character Ri-Ri has an identical twin sister, Di-Di, who is at Ista Weyr, and LightningRip's characters Callie and C'dy are twins). Roll | Legitimacey | 1 | Parents were mates | 2 | Parents were mates | 3 | Parents were mates | 4 | Parents were not mates | 5 | Parents were not mates | 6 | Born from Dragonlust | 7 | Born from Dragonlust | 8 | Born from a forbiden lover | 9 | Born of an affair | 10 | Born of Rape |
What sort of family the character was born with is also purly for background storys, although it may help with other aspects of your character too. "Partner Prefrence"Roll | For Male Characters | For Female Characters | 1-5 | Females | Males | 6-7 | Males | Females | 8-9 | Both | Both | 10 | Niether | Neither |
I know this is an... uncomfortable subject, but its nessesary for us to determine what type of dragon a candidate can impress... and can also be useful for non-candidate characters for later character development, though it is usualy frowned apon in a hold or hall for a man to like any other than a woman, this is much better suited within weyrs.

| Personality Literacy on pern is variable, but most lords and almost all harpers need to be literate. (*Not: In Dragon Harper, Vaxoram was dislexic, thus couldnt read) Politeness refers to the character's ability to maintain a pleasant front even with high-status Lords, Ranking riders and craft masters. Focus is the ability to concentrate on their goals or tasks at hand. The number after the / slash is for Obsession and should be rolled if the character has Focus - if they roll under the number for Obsession, something consumes the character to the point of distracting them from other activities. Features are detailed below. Kindness Shows how kind a character is, the higher the number, the kinder and more selfless they are, and vice versa. Selfishness indicates how generous or selfish a character is, a higher roll indicates gerorosity, and lower selfishness. Trader numbers for Politeness and Selfishness are for "Caravan members" and "Not Caravan Members", indicating how Caravan families stick to their own and really dislike others. Type | Literacey | Politeness | Focus | Selfishness | Kindness | Features | Holdless | 1 only | 1-4 | 1-9/3 | 8-10 | 1-5 | | Drudge | 1 only, unless bred in a weyr (1-2) | 1-8 | 1-8/2 | 8-10 | 3-7 | Add 1 Fear | Trader | 1-3 | 4-8/1-5 | 1-7/2 | 5-10 | 3-7 | Add 1 Place - a serious attachment, add 1 Thing (like or dislike) | Holdbred | 1-3 | 3-6 | 1-6/2 | 3-8 | 3-7 | Add 1 Place, -1 Strength of Goal | Holder's Child | 1-4 | 2-7 | 1-6/2 | 4-9 | 3-7 | Add 1 Place, +1 Strength of Goal | Lord Holders Child | 1-7 | 1-8 | 1-5/3 | 6-10 | 2-8 | +1 Valued, +1Disliked Place | Craftbred | 1-9 | 3-9 | 1-8/3 | 3-7 | 3-8 | Valued often = item | Weyrbrat | 1-6 | 2-8 | 1-7/2 | 2-9 | 2-8 | Goal often = Dragon, Add 1 Value or Place | Weyrbrat of ranking rider | 1-8 | 2-9 | 1-7/3 | 2-9 | 2-8 | Goal often = Dragon, Add 1 Value or Place | Other/Mixed | 1-5 | 1-6 | 1-5/2 | 3-7 | 3-7 | no modifications |

| Features and Values A "Strength of like or dislike" on a 1-10 roll may be used, to determine how intense the condition is (a 1 is barely present, a 5 is present and accounted for, and a 10 is overwhelming). Roll the Strength first, THEN the 1-10 roll for what exactly the trait is all about. Reject obvious contradictions, of course, or try to make them work... (A kid who loves the open sea, but is afraid of water...) If "50%" is indicated, choose which option works best for you or roll even/one option, odd/the other option. Obviously, these are not the ONLY items which someone might value, fear or enjoy. This is just a very small, basic list. Items marked with a * are very special indeed. Think hard about giving the character a trait like this, as they will have very unusual and strong social connotations as well as physical ones! You must also consult a Moderator if you wish to give it to your character.
Items marked with ** indicate that you should look below to another Chart Set to see what specifically it is."Things" (You may roll as many of these as you like, but you have to flesh it around them, remember) Roll | Values It 1-7, Hates It 8-10

| 1 | Hold Life | 2 | A Craft Hall | 3 | The Outdoors | 4 | The Beach | 5 | Cold or Hot Place | 6 | Dark or Light Place | 7 | The Open Sea | 8 | A Weyr | 9 | Alone / With People | 10 | Home / New Place | "Goals"Roll | Strength 1-10 | 1 | To "Get Away" | 2 | To Do Nothing | 3 | To Build or Create | 4 | To Travel | 5 | To Find Something | 6 | To find a Mate | 7 | To Protect Something | 8 | To Ride/Impress a Dragon | 9 | To Learn Something New | 10 | To Have Children |
"Fears" Roll | Strength 1-10 | 1 | Dragons | 2 | Thread | 3 | The Dark | 4 | Animals** | 5 | People / Being Alone | 6 | Heights | 7 | Enclosed / Open Spaces | 8 | Water | 9 | A Specific Person** | 10 | The Opposite Sex | "Very Unusuals" These are not nessesary, we may even ask you to remove them if they do not fit the character, or we already have to many people with said trait. Roll | | 1 | From A Long Line Of... | 2 | A Perfect Memory | 3 | Has an Unusual Diet or Allergy** | 4 | Hears All Dragons* | 5 | Can Influence Others* | 6 | Attracts Lots of Flits | 7 | Presence Reasures Others | 8 | Remembers Things They Shouldn't Know | "Other" Also not nessesary, and could be removed. Roll | Good or Bad (if hated, usually bad)
| 1 | Sense of Direction | 2 | Skill With Numbers | 3 | Skill With People | 4 | Learning Rate | 5 | Skill With Children | 6 | Nimbleness | 7 | Skill With Objects | 8 | Their Pitch/Voice | 9 | Skill With Animals | 10 | Shows Age Slowly/Quickly |

| Weaknesses Everyone must have a disadvantage or weakness, else we end up with a bunch of perfect Mary-sues and Garry-sues running around... and that would be no fun. ( WE wouldn't let them impress higher than a green anyway if they insist in being "Perfect") You roll once for the type of weakness, then again for the streangth, wich gives you the actual weakness. The "stronger" the weakness, the more encumbered your character is. SOME weaknesses can be overcome, even totaly fixed, but others will mean you can't have this character impress a dragon. Roll | Type | Weakest (1) | (2) | Typical (3) | Average (4) | (5) | Strongest (6) | 1-2 | Physical, Mild | Hairy/Bald | Smelly | Bad Teeth | Birthmark | Scars | Limp | 3-4 | Social | Poor/Greedy | Family Feud | New At... | Half-Blood | Secret | Indebted | 5 | Physical, Strong | Clumsy | Colorblind | Deaf and/or Mute | Missing Limb | Blind | Shakes/Palsy | 6 | Spiritual | Too-Powerful Empathy | Cannot Hear Dragons | Gets Lost Between | Constant Nightmares | Flits continuasly give horrid images to them | Insane |

| Events This is to assist in the creation of your characters background, and to aid in fleshing out the above texts. Please avoid directly objecting statments when using this, for example, a drudge with little more than a pocket of collected stones would not have had a huge inheritance from the death of a rich relitive, or suffered in the loss of their runner, as they probably only have other drudges as family, and are noware near rich enough to afford a runner, at least not one they would cry over. First off, you'll want to decide how many "events" your character will need for their story or their history. Please dont make and "Adult" events if your character is a child. For EACH chart - the numbers directly below (the "roll" row) apply whenever you roll your 6 sided die Roll | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | Results | 1 Childhood, 1 Teen/Adult
| 2 Childhood, 1 Teen/Adult | 2 Childhood, 2 Teen/Adult | 3 Childhood, 1 Teen/Adult | 2 Childhood, 3 Teen/Adult | 3 Childhood, 3 Teen/Adult |
Next, either choose or roll on the charts below to see when an Event happens. For each event listed in the quantity above, roll once on the chart below! So, if you rolled a 4 above, you'd roll three times in Childhood, and once either in teen or adult. Whichever suits your idea of the character. It's okay to have two events in the same range. Childhood ONLY | Infancy: Birth | Infancy: Toddler | Childhood: pre-4 | Childhood: 4-6 | Childhood: 7-9 | Childhood: 10-12 | Teen ONLY | Preteens: 11-12 | Teens: 13-14 | Teens: 15-16 | Teens: 17-18 | Teens: 18-19 | Teens: any | Adult ONLY | Young Adult: 19-20 | Young Adult: 20-21 | Young Adult: 22-25 | Adult: 24-28 | Adult: 26-29 | Adult: 28 |
Next, let's find out how "serious" the event is. For each event you've rolled, roll on this chart separately. So again, if you'd rolled a 4 at the top, you'd still be doing 3 for your childhood, 1 for your teen/adult years - though you might want to tamper with this particular level - unless you want tons of intense things happening? Then, also roll for the commonality of the event, as in how many other people this might have happened to over the ages. Severity | Very Mild, hardly a noticable effect | Mild, only affects a specific thing or for a short time | Average, it's something special to you | Sharp, it affects you particularly but only once in a while | Strong, this event has a lasting impact | Constant, this event will always shape how the character acts/is | Comanolity | Very common, happens to lots of people | Fairly common, happens often or to a number of folks | Common, happens to a few people often enough | Somewhat Rare, isn't seen in every Hold/Hall/Weyr | Rare, it's hardly seen in groups of people | Very Rare or Unique, this is such a rare event it's only happened to YOU |
Now, find out if the event only happens to YOUR character, to their family, friends, or those around them, and whether this is a negative or positive event. Remember that certain events that might seem at first to be one, might turn into the other. So if perhaps a birth is chosen, it's not always a good thing. Likewise, a death is not always bad. It just depends on how your character's life is shaping up. To Whom | Self Only | Self and Friend | Self and Relative | Close Relative | Close Friend | Distant but affects you directly | Effect | Resoundingly Negative, no one benefits | Pretty Negative, someone might get something out of this, but probably not you | Neutrally Negative, it might be annoying, but not really bad | Neutrally Good, it's mildly nice but nothing special | Pretty Good, you might have a lasting glow | Exceptionally Good, either something very amazing only to you, or something generally good for all |
Next you might want to locate a SOURCE of this event. If it doesn't sound right, just choose another thing or roll again. Then choose or roll for the TYPE of Event. These are highly subjective of course, to the things that you want to write about or have your character live through. Always just discard things you don't want. Source of Event | Self Inflicted | Parent/Guardian | Sibling/Relative | Friend/Lover | Enemy or Associate | Distant Enemy or Unknown person | Type of Event | Financial | Birth/Death | Land/Nature | Weather | Animal | Travel | Examples of Type | Sudden inheritance, loss | obvious - but whose? | Farming changes, earthquake, etc | disasterous hurricane, rain at the right time | gain or lose a pet, burden beast, racing, or even a dragon? | forced to move, finding a new place to live |
From these, you should be able to come up with at least the basics of a storyline for your character's life.

| This 16 Turn old Male is the weyrbrat of a ranking rider, the youngest of 5 Full siblings, with his parents being mates. He has a partner prefrence for females.
He is short and Barrel-boddied, with healthy light tan skin. His firey red hair comes down to his ears in tight braids, most actualy bounce wildley in the air above his head. His brown eyes dart around, taking note of all his souroundings.
He always studyed well, he may not be the brightest on Pern, but he is a good student and willing to learn. He is very kind and selfless, and will do anything for a friend.
He values his skills in reading peoples moods and record keeping, and has often been told that he'd make a good harper just for that. He loves being with people and hates small enclosed spaces, though the size of a propper dragon weyr does not bother him. He is good with other children, and his goal is to become a dragonrider. He has the strange ability to remember things he shouldnt know, and he claims its all memorys that his brown Flit gives him.
He has an exelent relationship with his natural mother, but not with his aunt, who raised him, because she is lower cavern staff and despises her sister's relationship, status and the fact that his mother has a dragon, when she does not.
He is trained to use a sword, but he only uses it while hunting, though he is not very good at that to start with.
He has a secret: he touched an egg he should not have (one that hatched into a bronze he later impressed from the stands) before he was aloud. It is highly believed that touching an egg both before its hardned AND after, will influence it it impress to you. He feels very guilty for doing so.
At the age of 4, he and his foster-brother were forgoten and left behind on a farmhold by his Aunt, who had traveled there for a wedding. They would have frozen overnight, were it not for the runner who kept them warm, and refused to come when called the next morning, which resulted in them being found and then safely returned.
When he was 11, this same foster-brother died due to his aunts neglect. He was devistated, and the loss of his foster-brother to his cruel aunt forever stayed with him.
When he was 12, a close friend of the family reported that the huge storms off the coast the turn before had brough rich harvests, and there was a huge feast in the weyr, and for a while all his troubbles were forgotten.
When he was 14, he traveled to southern in a flit-hunting expitition. It was here he impressed his brown flit, and began to get the odd memorys that the flit aquired from his species's collective memory. He loves watching these memorys, as they distract him from his hellish home life and evil aunt.
Now at 16, he has impressed the bronze he touched without permission from the stands, as it refused any others. Nobody knows what he did, but he is finaly enjoying life away from his evil aunt. A close female friend also impressed a gold from the next clutch.... you never know...
And that sums it up. Just to put that onto the forms, keep it at hand for future refrence, and give him a name!
